Emperor Japanese Maple
Emperor I is considered to be an improvement over the Bloodgood Japanese Maple.
It is said to hold its color better in warmer climates where the Bloodgood may ‘green out’ in late summer.
Also it leaves out later in the spring, so it may escape some late frosts.
New leaves are dark maroon, fall color is brilliant crimson.
All Japanese Maples have very thin bark, and are susceptible to sunscald.
Grows to 15-18 ft high and 12-15 ft wide
