Red Sunset Maple
Red Sunset Maple has been one of the most popular shade trees used in the landscape industry for a very long time.
It’s a tree with very few faults, a sturdy and reliable plant.
There are few insects or diseases to contend with and it is adaptable to most soils.
Unfortunately it is not as vigorous at the A. x freemanii hybrids, but you should be able to dig a 2” tree in 4 years.
Red Sunset will have to be pruned and staked the first few years to assure a sound structure.
Red Sunset, as all Red Maples exhibit graft incompatibility, so all cultivars should be grown on their own root.
Grows to 60 ft high and 45 ft wide
Growth rate: Moderate to slow
